NORTH LITTLE ROCK (KTHV) - Riverfront development is on the move in North Little Rock.
Today's THV took a walking tour of one area on Friday, picking up some steam. It's right across from the corporate office of Dillards. A future marina will take over part of Riverfront Drive, filling the area here toward the river with 136 boat slips.
Developer Jim Jackson says, just this week, the Rockwater Marina received its final clearance for construction after state lawmakers Wednesday signed off on a $1 million federal grant for the marina. The goal is start building September 1ST and open in early spring of 2013. So far, Jackson says they've got about nine solid leads on boat slip leasing but have received more than 50 inquiries.
Since the marina will be taking over part of Riverfront Drive, there is a new road in the works right now, just to the north. It's called Rockwater Boulevard and should be complete in August. It runs from roughly the roundabout at Pike Avenue and Broadway and travels west to a new apartment complex called Riverside at Rockwater. Jackson says that there are currently 60 units available in the apartment complex and they've rented about half of them so far. Some apartments include riverfront views.
