Rockwater Boulevard in North Little Rock will open with a ribbon cutting at 4 p.m. today (Aug. 17).
Located 1,400 yards west of Dickey-Stephens Park (400 W. Broadway, North Little Rock) off a roundabout at the intersections of Broadway, Riverfront Drive and Rockwater, Rockwater Boulevard will serve as a new route for cars along the north side of the Arkansas River and lead to Rockwater Marina and Riverside at Rockwater Apartments.
With Rockwater Boulevard in place, River Road -- which runs from Baring Cross Railway Bridge to Burns Park and is part of the River Trail -- will be closed to vehicular traffic and become dedicated to bicyclists and pedestrians. This will eliminate the need for bicyclists to share its narrow stretch with cars on the north side of the river west of the railway bridge.
Over $41 million has been spent developing the area in the last three years -- Rockwater Boulevard was constructed using funds from a TIF (tax increment financing) district created a few years ago by the City of NLR and North Bluffs Development Corporation, according to North Bluffs president Jim Jackson, a Little Rock attorney.
